What is coaching?
Coaching is a partnership that maximizes human potential. By capitalizing on your existing strengths and deepening your understanding of your impact, the coaching relationship fosters your personal and professional development. Coaching can help you articulate your vision, clarify your defining values, set goals you feel passionate about, and create a plan for your own development. Coaching provides a structure to reflect, capture learning, and take action. The coach is an ally for the client to build capacity, expand possibilities, and achieve greater fulfilment and success while staying on track with work and life objectives.
Your coach will encourage you to set the agenda for your coaching sessions, help you remove obstacles and facilitate change. In this dynamic relationship your coach supports, celebrates, challenges, and champions you. At the same time your coach holds you responsible for what matters most to you. Coaching helps you break through old barriers by noticing where you stop yourself, and by taking actions consistent with your vision and goals. You get to choose the focus of your sessions.
Some of the options you might choose to work on include:
- Clarify your vision and values
- Create an action plan congruent with your values
- Balance your life based on values and priorities
- Stop self-sabotage and procrastination, and confront your fears
- Identify your passions and express yourself more authentically
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A TYPICAL COACHING SESSION?
Often, after a game, an athletic coach will go back to the locker-room and go over the game results with the team. Together they look at what worked, what didn’t, and what they will do differently in the future. They also look at blind spots that keep them from making the right plays, discuss skills that need to be developed, brainstorm new options, and identify risks and challenges. The format is the same for your coaching session. The two most powerful elements of coaching are for you, the client, to build an awareness of learning opportunities and to choose the actions that generate the results you want.
WHAT OUTCOMES CAN I EXPECT FROM COACHING?
- More freedom and choice
- Navigating daily demands with ease and fluidity
- Realizing desired goals
- Personal and professional growth
HOW DOES COACHING DIFFER FROM THERAPY?
Therapy helps you review the past and coaching helps you create a new future. The coaching process creates opportunities for you to own your life powerfully through choice. The questions most often asked in a dynamic coaching relationship are, “So what? Now what? What will you choose today?”
